So you've locked in a date for your family photo session, now to work out what everyone will wear.
For some people this is a really enjoyable process. For others, cue cold sweat!
So for anyone else in the same camp here are my top tips to help you figure out what to wear to make your family photos pop:
1. Be yourself
If you normally get around in jeans and a t-shirt (🙋♀️) don't feel like you have to put on heels and wear a dress, or a shirt and a tie. Jeans look great in photos and if you are comfortable and relaxed it will show in the photos!
2. Plain is best
I love me a good slogan t-shirt BUT not for family photos. We want the focus to be on all of the happy faces. Stick to plain block colours, stripes, or subtle patterns.
3. Cohesive, but not uniform
Remember the 'everyone is wearing a white t-shirt' family photos of the late 80s and early 90s? Let's not relive that trauma! What you want to aim for is a cohesive, but not uniform look. Pick a colour palette of three or so colours and use it as a base for everyone's outfits.
Check out my 'what to wear' board on Pinterest for some examples of colour palettes.
4. Don't forget the little details
It's easy to get caught up in the main part of everyone's outfit but don't forget the little details. Polish your shoes, clean your nails, trim your beard and tie your hair back if it's windy.
When you book in for a photo session with me I send you a 'Welcome Guide' in the mail which has lots more tips on what to wear and how to prepare for this important investment. Check out some examples of clients who have nailed it below.
Have a great day!
